Sarola, in the municipality of Chiusavecchia, is a small village of 70 inhabitants, all we know, many people have lived here for generations, many have come over the years and have decided to stay.
The population of Sarola is justly proud of its past and its traditions, many of these, which bring the old world values ??of a purely peasant remained over time and are proposed with great pride.
On January 22 we celebrate the patron saint, St. Vincenzo, and the whole population gathers for religious celebrations which culminate each year with a rich refreshments in the Church Square.
At Carnival, the festival is of course of children with group games and the classic pentolaccia.
On Maundy Thursday, where one of the oldest traditions of this country: U Pastu (Cena Domini)
restricted to men who are part of the Confraternity of the Annunziata.
The ritual, very rigorous, provides that the country's older women prepare a meal of lean meat (whole fish) and the girls serve the men, gathered in a large horseshoe-shaped table.
The dishes are always the same:
- Anchovies with extra virgin olive oil
- Pasta topped with a special sauce made with walnuts and anchovies (whose ingredients are top secret)
- Cod fried in sweet-sour sauce
- Boiled Cod
- Three-to-head nuts
Even the seating follow a strict Code: always sit at the head of the characters in particular how the mayor, the parish priest and the priors of the Annunziata.
At Easter we usually all get together in a large lawn surrounded by olive trees in an area of town called "San Bastian" (because of the nearby Oratorio di San Sebastiano). Here we take a picnic where everyone brings something friendly then join with others and eventually becomes a giant egg raffle with first prize.
The last Sunday of the month of May is Santa Infanzia: in the morning the HolyMass and Vespers in the afternoon with a procession through the main street where the women wear on their shoulders the statue of the Madonna and Child Daughters of the small statue of the Santa Infanzia, and after the reception offered by rich people to all present.
